April's traditional birthstone is the diamond — and the modern list, fixed by Jewelers of America in 1912, kept it exactly the same, no swap here. Diamond is the hardest natural material known, formed under immense heat and pressure deep in the Earth's mantle. Ancient Greeks believed diamonds were splinters of fallen stars, or the tears of the gods, and the stone has carried that outsized reputation ever since, becoming the enduring symbol of eternal love and purity it is today.

April also claims two birth flowers: the daisy and the sweet pea. The daisy stands for innocence and loyal love, its simple layered petals read as an emblem of everyday devotion. The sweet pea carries a more bittersweet meaning — blissful pleasure paired with a delicate goodbye, making it as much a flower for parting as for happiness.
