A real compatibility calculation (the kind Synastri runs, not a fabricated "you're 97% compatible" number) looks at concrete structural relationships between two signs — shared or clashing elements, matching or differing modalities, the angular distance between the signs on the zodiac wheel. These are real, consistent patterns, not randomly generated flattery.
Why a low score isn't a red flag
A structurally "difficult" pairing describes friction points, not doom. Two fixed signs (say, Taurus and Scorpio) will both dig in during a disagreement — that's a real, predictable dynamic, but it's something two self-aware people can actually navigate. Some of the strongest real relationships run on pairings that astrology would call "hard work" on paper, precisely because both people showed up and did the work.

A naturally easy elemental match (fire and air, earth and water) describes less friction, not more depth.
