How the birth card is calculated
Add up every digit of your full birth date — day, month, and year — then keep summing the digits of the result until it lands in the 0-21 range of the 22 Major Arcana (a total of exactly 22 folds back to 0, The Fool, matching tradition's dual 0/22 numbering). Because it's built from your birth date alone, this card never changes: it's fixed for life, the same way a Life Path number is.
How the year card differs
The year card uses the identical reduction — sum digits, fold into 0-21 — but swaps your birth year for whatever calendar year you're asking about. Same birth day and month, different year, so the total (and therefore the card) shifts annually. It's meant to be read as a theme for that specific year, alongside the birth card rather than instead of it.
