Alder (Fearn)

Alder grows in wet, difficult ground where little else takes root, and its cut wood turns from white to a startling red-orange — old tradition read this as the tree bleeding, a sign of a warrior's courage. Alder piles were also driven into riverbeds and marshland to build stable foundations under bridges and buildings.
