Eight Mansions Feng Shui sorts everyone into an East Group (Kua 1, 3, 4, 9) or a West Group (Kua 2, 6, 7, 8), each with 4 auspicious compass directions drawn from the classical Ba Zhai tables. Unlike most systems on this site, your Kua depends only on birth year and gender — no month or day needed.
The number 5 never appears as a final Kua number — the tradition itself remaps it (to 2 for men, 8 for women), so there is no "Kua 5."
From birth year and gender only (no month or day needed) — sum the digits of your birth year down to a single number, then apply one of two formulas depending on whether you were born before or after 2000. The result places you in the East Group (Kua 1, 3, 4, 9) or West Group (Kua 2, 6, 7, 8) of the classical Eight Mansions (Ba Zhai) Feng Shui system.
